How to disable TSSE in ONTAP 9.8 and later

  • TSSE is enabled for new thin provisioned volumes on AFF platforms running ONTAP 9.8 and later.
  • TSSE is available for existing thin provisioned volumes on AFF platforms running ONTAP 9.10.1 and later.
  • TSSE is enabled for thin provisioned volumes on AFF C-Series platforms running ONTAP 9.15.1 or earlier.  
    • Note: TSSE is not applied to thick provisioned volumes
  • TSSE is not applied to AFF C-Series running ONTAP 9.16.1 or later (see Learn about ONTAP temperature-sensitive storage efficiency). These platforms use CPU or dedicated offload processor storage efficiency. 
  • This article explains how to disable TSSE in ONTAP 9.8 and later for AFF A-Series and ASA A-Series platforms only.
  • TSSE cannot be disabled on AFF C-Series and ASA C-Series platforms.
