Downloading ONTAP image fails with "The file downloaded is too large" or "Error: Transferred a partial file"

Issue

  • Attempting to install ONTAP through option 7 at the boot menu may result in an error similar to the following.

The file downloaded is too large.  Please verify that it is a valid
Data ONTAP image. If the problem persists, try setting
bootarg.install.ramdisksize (currently ####M) to a higher value,
or contact Customer Support.

  • Attempting to install ONTAP via the "system node image update" command may result in an error similar to the following.

cluster1::*> system node image update -node cluster1-01 -package http://10.10.10.10/97_q_image.tgz

Install Failed.
Failed to download package from http://.../97_q_image.tgz. Error: Transferred a
partial file : transfer closed with 2427451296 bytes remaining to read

Error: command failed: Install Failed. Failed to download package from
       http://.../97_q_image.tgz. Error: Transferred a partial file : transfer
       closed with 2427451296 bytes remaining to read
