SP or BMC firmware update fails with (SSL_error_code = 1)

Issue

  • Update does not progress and eventually aborts:

  • system service-processor image show still refers to the old FW

  • EMS reports the failure:

servprocd: sp.servprocd.upd.error:error]: SP update error: SP firmware update failure has been detected

hm.alert.raised:alert]: Alert Id = SPAutoUpgradeFailedMajorAlert , Alerting Resource = SP Upgrade raised by monitor controller

  •  SP-MGMT-MLOG-TXT.GZ error:
ERR: Servprocd::CLI: sp_get_sensor_info_worker : TTX ERROR: 7 (SSL_connect: certificate verify failed (SSL_error_code = 1))
SSL_shutdown: shutdown while in init (SSL_error_code = 1)
Error: SSL_connect: unknown state (SSL_error_code = 1) exception occurred in spcc_sp_get_sensor_info code
  • There might also be an issue with trying to SSH into the SP/BMC, no prompt appears after entering credentials
  • Service-Processor is degraded in system health subsystem show output
