Answer

  • The auto-update mechanism depends on whether the auto-update option is enabled.
  • When a replacement motherboard has a lower BMC firmware version than the original, ONTAP attempts SP/BMC firmware auto-update up to three times; if all attempts fail, no further retries occur, and a manual update is required.
  • If the replacement motherboard has a newer firmware version, ONTAP does not perform a downgrade. In this case, the partner node should be updated to match the same SP firmware version.
