Intermittent ICMP Down alarms on e0M management ports
Applies to
- FAS8300
- ONTAP 9
Issue
- Frequent and intermittent ICMP down alarms are observed on e0M management port
- The frequency of the alarms can increase over time, from sporadic occurrences to daily events
- SSH connectivity to the Service Processor (SP) remains normal, with no service interruption or login failure
Example
- ICMP ping drops detected by monitoring systems (e.g., 0.75% packet loss over 1580 pings)
- Alarm triggered when 3 consecutive pings at 30‑second intervals are missed
- No errors observed in SP module, e0M port status, EMS logs, or traffic statistics (ifstat -a)
- Management port operating at auto/1000 Mbps with healthy status
