Applies to

  • FAS8300
  • ONTAP 9

Issue

  • Frequent and intermittent ICMP down alarms are observed on e0M management port
  • The frequency of the alarms can increase over time, from sporadic occurrences to daily events
  • SSH connectivity to the Service Processor (SP) remains normal, with no service interruption or login failure

Example

  • ICMP ping drops detected by monitoring systems (e.g., 0.75% packet loss over 1580 pings)
  • Alarm triggered when 3 consecutive pings at 30‑second intervals are missed
  • No errors observed in SP module, e0M port status, EMS logs, or traffic statistics (ifstat -a)
  • Management port operating at auto/1000 Mbps with healthy status
