Event Summary

[node02: env_mgr: callhome.chassis.hitemp:error]: Call home for CHASSIS OVER TEMPERATURE

The above message appears when the chassis temperature is too hot.

  • The message appears just before system shutdown and indicates a potential environmental problem or faulty hardware in the system, such as a fan failure or a malfunctioning temperature sensor.
  • Systems should be in a data center with ambient temperatures within the operating range of the system. Check Hardware Universe for the specific platform requirements.

Resolution

  1. Check the data center temperature. If the cooling systems are working correctly:
  2. Best practice is to upgrade the SP/BMC firmware to the latest versions because the alert could be due to a firmware issue: Steps to update ONTAP's  Service Processor (SP) or Baseboard Management Controller (BMC)
  3. Follow How to boot a node after a power loss or a high-temperature shutdown in ONTAP

  • If the issue persists and the data center temperature is verified within the accepted operating range, contact Support

The solution might require a part replacement. Please contact NetApp Technical Support or log into the NetApp Support Site to create a case. Reference this article for further assistance.
