Applies to

  • DS460C shelves running:
    • IOM12A firmware less than 0311
    • IOM12B firmware less than 0141
  • Manual Disk Shelf firmware upgrade
  • Part of ONTAP upgrade

Issue

During a disk shelf firmware upgrade multiple disks are reported as "missing" in the ONTAP (EMS) event logs.

  • May occur during a manual FW upgrade or during an ONTAP upgrade (new shelf firmware version may be bundled)

Example:

[node_name: dmgr_thread: raid.disk.missing:info]: Disk 0b.10.1 Shelf 10 Drawer 2 Slot 9 Bay 23 [NETAPP   XXX_HXXXX7 NA03] S/N [XXX] UID [500000A2:...] is missing from the system
[node_name: dmgr_thread: raid.disk.missing:info]: Disk 0b.10.2 Shelf 10 Drawer 3 Slot 1 Bay 21 [NETAPP   XXX_HXXXX7 NA03] S/N [XXX] UID [500000A2:...] is missing from the system

  • Shelf firmware update is completed successfully:

[node_name: dsa_sfu: sfu.downloadSummary:info]: Shelf firmware updated on 2 shelves.

  • Shelf status is critical as the missing disks are bypassed from both the IOM modules:

::> system node run -node <node_name> -command storage show fault

Enclosure Status: critical
Channel: 0a
Shelf: 10
Shelf Type: DS460-12
Product Serial Number: SHJGD1730000153
Module Type: IOM12

21 [Bay  9]: CRITICAL    02,09,30,2C   ENCLOSURE BYPASSED B, ENCLOSURE BYPASSED A, BYPASSED B, BYPASSED A, FAULT REQSTD
29 [Bay  1]: CRITICAL    02,01,30,2C   ENCLOSURE BYPASSED B, ENCLOSURE BYPASSED A, BYPASSED B, BYPASSED A, FAULT REQSTD
