Answer

  • NAS: No service impact or data loss.
    • File handle is used by NFS client, it remains unchanged when rename volume name without NFS umount/remount operation
    • CIFS client uses share name to map the share, volume renaming will not change CIFS share name.
  • SAN:No service impact
    • Using command lun move-in-volume, you can move a LUN to a new path in the same volume or rename it.
    • The process is non-disruptive. It can be performed while the LUN is online and serving data.
