ANDU

This abbreviation stands for automated nondisruptive upgrade.  This upgrade method is used for nearly all ONTAP upgrades and is the preferred method.

Rolling Upgrade

A rolling upgrade is an ANDU upgrade method for smaller ONTAP clusters.  The rolling upgrade method enables you to update a cluster of two or more nodes nondisruptively. This method has several steps: initiating a failover operation on each node in an HA pair, updating the “failed” node, initiating giveback, and then repeating the process for each HA pair in the cluster.

Batch Upgrade

A batch upgrade is an ANDU upgrade method reserved for 8 or more nodes in a cluster - it takes less time than the rolling upgrade method. The batch upgrade method involves dividing the cluster into two upgrade batches, upgrading the set of nodes in the first batch, upgrading their high-availability (HA) partners, and then repeating the process for the other batch.  Prior to using the batch upgrade method, verify the LIF failover configuration in the cluster. With ONTAP 9.8 and later, LIFs are failed over to nodes in the other batch. Ensure failover targets are available on the nodes in the other batch.

Disruptive Upgrade

A disruptive upgrade is an uncommon upgrade method reserved for specific circumstances, such as a single-node cluster.

Manual Nondisruptive Upgrade

This involves manual steps to confirm the ONTAP configuration on each node and then uses the rolling update method to perform the upgrade.

DQP

The Disk Qualification Package (DQP) is often mentioned in combination with ONTAP upgrade maintenance windows.  It is not included as part of an ONTAP upgrade, but it is available as a download. Keeping the DQP updated is a highly recommended best practice.
