Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.9.1+
  • FabricPool
  • MetroCluster
  • unmirrored aggregate
  • Volume encryption conversion

Issue

  • After an update to ONTAP 9.9.1+, data in unmirrored MetroCluster aggregates are no longer tiering to the FabricPool.
  • Tiering for the volumes is in a ready state and the previous run aborts with the aborted-nospace error:

Cluster01::> set advanced
Cluster01::*> vol object-store tiering show -volume vol1 -vserver SVM1
                             Vserver: SVM1
                              Volume: vol1
                           Node Name: Node-04
                         Volume DSID: 3089
                      Aggregate Name: aggr2
                               State: ready
                 Previous Run Status: aborted-nospace

          Time Scanner Last Finished: Tue Jun 21 11:25:14 2022

  • The following error is seen in the sktrace.log when the volume object-store tiering trigger command is used or by default every one minute:
2022-04-20T13:20:42Z 4190555542035        [31:0] CLOUD_BIN_ERR:  wafl_cbin_get_enospc_err: MCC_TLOG_DRAIN_DISABLED:Reject writing to tlog for aggr:aggr2 bin=08935060-8d7a-11ec-91b1-00a098c20388, primary cfg=11, mirror cfg=0, mirrored=false
  • The issue can also cause volume encryption conversion jobs to fail on volumes that has data already tiered:

Thu Jun 06 14:46:58 +0200 [cluster1-01: mgwd: encryption.op.paused.on.err:error]: Conversion to encryption operation on volume 'MATPT_DC_v103' in Vserver 'SVM1' is paused due to an error. Reason 'The capacity tier is unavailable. Ensure that the capacity tier is available,and once it is resume the operation.'.
