Is it possible to use RAID4 for the node root aggregate when joining a node to a cluster

Answer

  • You can only deploy the node's root aggregate using RAID-DP.
  • Root aggregates that utilize root-data or root-data-data partitioning are supported for use with RAID4.
  • However, NetApp recommends RAID-DP for 8-drive configurations (HDD or SSD) with no spare root partitions – the default when the system is initialized.
  • If necessary, you can convert the root aggregate to RAID4 – the additional disk will be returned as a spare disk.
