Considerations before increasing the file count in ONTAP
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- Cloud Volumes ONTAP
- Inode capacity (maxfiles)
Description
When a volume runs out of inodes, no more files can be created in that volume until the number of inodes is increased or existing inodes are freed.
- inode"capacity" is the number of inodes that can be stored by the user in the volume per the current
-files
value. - You can change the inode capacity (maximum number of files for a volume), but before doing so you should understand how this change affects the volume and aggregate.
