Why does a prefail drive not generate an AutoSupport?

Answer

  • ONTAP does not generate an AutoSupport when a drive is marked as pre-failed
  • ONTAP starts to copy the disk to a suiteable spare disk
  • Once the copy process is completed, the disk becomes to failed status after being checked by ONTAP maintenance center and an AutoSupport generated.
