Answer

ONTAP 9.8 and Higher with NTP Configured
  • Some hardware maintenance will reset the hardware real-time clock (RTC) such as a controller module (motherboard) or RTC battery replacement
  • While the node boots the node managment LIF is brought online prior to ONTAP loading.
  • NTP synchronization is performed early in the ONTAP boot process prior to any service starting that requires accurate time such as SMB or NFS
Previous ONTAP Releases or no NTP Configured
  • The date and time must be correctly set in GMT time at the LOADER prompt as outlined in the hardware replacement documentation
