Issue

  • After replacing a failed drive on an ONTAP node, the following recurring alert appeared weekly:

[:config_thread:callhome.spares.low:error]: Callhome for SPARES_LOW: /_15NVMe_1/plex0/rg0, /_15NVMe_1/plex0/rg

  • Both amber and green LEDs were lit on the disk drive bay of the controller pair
  • The drive appeared healthy in ASUPs and ONTAP logs, but the LEDs indicated otherwise.
  • No errors were seen in the event logs.
  • The SPARES_LOW alert recurred every Saturday at 2 PM CST.
  • The issue persisted even after reseating the drive and repeated ASUP reviews.
