Management interfaces within ONTAP are unreachable during internal switch SP or BMC updates

Issue

  • During the internal switch update of SP or BMC firmware management interfaces (LIFs) hosted on the same node's e0M port become briefly unavailable. 
  • EMS reports e0M port link down/up during internal switch update post SP/BMC firmware upgrade complete:

[Node_01: spnr_main: sp.eth.switch.upd.start:notice]: BMC is starting Ethernet switch auto-update from 18 to 19.
[Node_01: intr: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e0M: Link down, check cable.
[Node_01: spnr_main: sp.eth.switch.upd.success:notice]: BMC Ethernet switch version updated from 18 to 19.
[Node_01: intr: netif.linkUp:info]: Ethernet e0M: Link up.

  • SP-LATEST-SYSTEM-EVENT-LOG reports e0M port link down/up during internal switch update post SP/BMC firmware upgrade complete:
