Issue

  • System shows alert addressing PSU failure. Example:

Node: node_name
Severity: ALERT
Message: monitor.chassisPower.degraded: Chassis power is degraded: Sensor detecting voltage anomalies.
Description: This message occurs when a power supply is degraded.
Corrective Action: Degraded power might be caused by bad power supplies, bad wall power, or bad components on the motherboard. If spare power supplies are available, try exchanging them to see if that alleviates the problem. Otherwise contact NetApp technical support for further direction.

  • ONTAP Event Message System (EMS) error:

ERROR monitor.power.unreadable: A power sensor PVCCIN CPU0 in the controller module is not readable.

  • The issue remains after one PSU replacement
  • The issue remains after a controller and chassis replacement
  • After two weeks the errors occur again
  • After replacing the second PSU new messages are reported. Example:

Message: monitor.shutdown.emergency: Emergency shutdown: Multiple chassis fans have failed.
Message: monitor.shutdown.emergency: Emergency shutdown: Environmental Reason Shutdown (Multiple fans failed)
Message: callhome.c.fan.fru.fault: Call home for CHASSIS FAN FRU FAILED: Fan4_1
Message: callhome.c.fan.fru.fault: Call home for CHASSIS FAN FRU FAILED: Fan2_1
Message: callhome.c.fan.fru.fault: Call home for CHASSIS FAN FRU FAILED: Fan4_2
Message: callhome.c.fan.fru.fault: Call home for CHASSIS FAN FRU FAILED: Fan2_2
