CFBIOS-1937: AFF A900, ASA A900 or FAS9500 with BMC 16.4 and BIOS 18.15 fails to boot

Issue

  • AFF A900, ASA A900 or FAS9500 systems experience a continuous reboot loop during an ONTAP upgrade or after the BIOS 18.15 or later service image is manually installed
  • This condition can result in loss of system availability until corrective action is taken
  • The issue occurs only under a specific firmware combination and upgrade sequence
  • A node in the system enters a reboot loop during ONTAP upgrade or after the service image is installed
  • The following is example output shown on the serial console port. It is repeated for each reboot loop.

  • AFF A900, ASA A900, FAS9500
  • Systems upgrading from older ONTAP releases or installing a BIOS service image where:
    • BIOS is upgraded to version 18.15 (or later)
    • Installed BMC firmware at time of upgrade is version 16.4 or earlier
