Why CIFS shares are created with permissions 'Everyone / Full Control'?
Applies to
ONTAP System Manager (OSM) 9.8 and above
Answer
Fully visible CIFS share is automatically created on a volume with file permissions 'Everyone/Full Control'
To create a volume without immediately sharing it and pick an appropriate share name (instead of the volume name), follow these steps:
- Click Storage > Shares > Edit > Find Everyone group
- Select Access Permission dropdown
- Change to No Access
- NOTE: In this example, No Access denies access to all CIFS users and should be updated after creation
