Why did a Quality of Service (QoS) policy get applied to a newly created volume in System Manager?
Applies to
ONTAP System Manager 9.8+
Answer
- When creating volumes in System Manager, an adaptive QoS policy is automatically set by default
- Example: In newly created test3 volume, the Value-Fixed QoS policy is applied to the volume
This is configured when going through the volume creation wizard. By clicking on more options, you can view the specified level.
This can be disabled by changing the setting to custom and none.
Additional Information
- The following documentation provides details on making changes to the assigned QoS policy:
How to provision a LUN that does not have a QoS policy assigned

Note: This procedure is the same for volumes
- Under PERFORMANCE SERVICE LEVEL, the dropdown by default will be something like Value
- Click the dropdown and push Custom
- In the ASSIGN QOS POLICY GROUP section, under the Existing radio button, change the drop down to none
- Create the LUN with other steps as normal
