  • BES-53248 Cluster switches

Issue

  • The cluster ports on the nodes that are connected to the same BES-53248 cluster switch go down at the same time:

Mon Jun 05 12:44:27 [Node1: kernel: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e3a: Link down, check cable.
Mon Jun 05 12:44:27 [Node1: vifmgr: vifmgr.portdown:notice]: A link down event was received on node Node1, port e3a.

Mon Jun 05 12:44:27 [Node2: kernel: netif.linkDown:info]: Ethernet e3a: Link down, check cable.
Mon Jun 05 12:44:27 [Node2: vifmgr: vifmgr.portdown:notice]: A link down event was received on node Node2, port e3a.

  • The following alert is reported in the event logs:

[Node2: mgwd: callhome.hm.alert.major:alert]: Call home for Health Monitor process cshm: ClusterSwitchMissing_Alert[Cluster1].

  • "system health alert show" output reports following alert:

               Node: Node-1a
               Alert ID: SwitchUnreachable_Alert
               Resource: CS-sw2
               Severity: Major
        Indication Time: Sun May 04 11:24:52 2025
               Suppress: false
     Acknowledge: false
Probable Cause: The ethernet switch's IP address is not reachable from
                         the local node.
Possible Effect: Monitoring of the switch and log collection will not
                         function.
Corrective Actions: Ensure that the IP address is reachable or specify the
                         correct reachable IP address.

  • The affected switch is missing from the cluster switch health monitoring (CSHM) table.
  • The switch is down and is not reachable via ping or SSH.
  • Amber LED is seen on the switch.
  • The switch is unresponsive over console access.
