Event Summary

  • Persistent cache backup device has failed is reported in the events log on SANtricity
  • CACHE BACKUP DEVICE - Failed error message is showing in the Recovery Guru.
    • Additionally, a  CACHE_BACKUP_DEVICE_INSUFFICIENT_CAPACITY recovery guru failure entry may be logged.

E-Series Persistent cache backup device has failed

  • The mSATA drive, used for flushing cache in the event of a power down or sudden loss of power, has failed.
    • Depending on the system configuration, an alert may be displayed indicating that the cache is disabled or suspended. This is to be expected if the cache backup device fails.
      • Failure Entry 2: WB_CACHING_FORCIBLY_DISABLED-Recovery Failure Type Code: 378

Validate

  • The Storage Array Profile log indicates that the cache backup device has failed.
