Issue

  • High level steps for online drive firmware upgrade:
    • E-Series controller(s) pulls one drive at a time to upgrade.
    • Flashing the firmware takes no more than 2 minutes in which the controller keeps track of modified data stripes on the drive.
    • Once firmware download is complete, the controller performs "Rapid Reconstruction" process to reconstruct ONLY the modified stripes.
  • Rapid Reconstruction takes an excessive amount of time to rebuild some volumes during online drive firmware upgrade.
  • Only on one of the two controllers, the partner controller performs the Rapid Reconstruction as expected.
  • 4 seconds read latency experienced during firmware upgrade and start of Rapid Reconstruction.
