OTV 10.4 to 10.5 upgrade completes with Appliance showing Degraded

NetApp ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere v10.x

Issue

  • While in the ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere v10.4 Web Console diagnostic shell (whether locally or remote) performing an upgrade from v10.4 to v10.5, the upgrade fails with the following message:

ONTAP Tools Upgrade failed

Error from server: error dialing backend proxy error from 172.0.0.1:9345

  • Rebooting the OTV VM does allow access to ONTAP Tools Manager, however, when opening the OTV plugin in vSphere, the Overview page shows the Appliance status as Degraded instead of Healthy
  • In the Job Manager view pane, Storage Discovery is shown as Failed with the following message:

Post https://<vCenter_IP_Address>/sdk: tls: failed to verify certificate: x509: cannot validate certificate for <vCenter_IP_Address> because it doesn't contain any IP SANs

  • When attempting to address OTV v10.5 validate certificate error by toggling the cert validation flag within OTV's Application Configuration Menu, it fails with the following message:

Could not find cert_validation flag in /opt/netapp/meta/ansible_vars.yaml file

  • When SSH'ed into the OTV VM and navigating to view the ansible_vars.yaml file, the cert_validation: True flag is missing
