Applies to

  • OnCommand Insight Data Warehouse 7.3.3 (OCI DWH)
  • Microsoft Windows Server

Issue

  • The 'Informix IDS – ol_cognoscm' service fails to start after a reboot.
  • If the service is manually started, it fails with The service did not start due to a logon failure.

Cause

The Informix user account password is expired or has been changed.

Solution

  • If the password has expired and no other changes are made, updating the password policy for the user is sufficient to resolve the issue.
  1. Open the Local Users and Groups on the DWH server (lusrmgr.msc)
  2. Under Users, check the properties for the Informix user
  3. Uncheck User must change password at next logon
  4. Check Password never expires and click OK to save
  5. In Services, start the Informix and Cognos services. All four services are listed here for convenience:
  • ApacheDS - cognos
  • Informix IDS Message Service
  • Informix IDS - ol_cognoscm
  • IBM Cognos

  • If the 'Informix' password has been or must be changed due to policy, then the password must be updated in IBM Cognos Configuration as well as for the service.
  1. Open the Local Users and Groups on the DWH server (lusrmgr.msc)
  2. Right-click on the informix user and click Set Password to set the password
  3. In Services, open the properties for the Informix IDS - ol_cognoscm service
  4. Select the Log On tab and perform one of the following steps:
    • Change the Log on to use the Local System account
    • Update the password for the informix account
  5. Start the Informix IDS - ol_cognoscm service
  6. Launch IBM Cognos Configuration as administrator
  7. Navigate to Data Access -> Content Manager -> Content Store
  8. Edit the User ID and password field and enter the new password
  9. Right-click on Content Store and select Test - the database connection test should be successful
  10. Right-click on Local Configuration and select Start
