What are the phases in the NDE install workflow?

Answer

NDE creates the following deployment workflow tasks:

  1. DeployHci
  2. ConfigNetwork 
  3. CreateCluster
  4. DeployEsxi
  5. DeployVcenter
  6. DeployMnode
  7. DeployOTS
  8. Finalize
They are serially executed until the install is complete.


Tasks

  1. DeployHci – Master task for HCI deployment
    • Parent task for all other tasks
  2. ConfigNetwork – Sets up all node networking
    • ConfigureStorageNodeNetwork
    • ConfigureComputeNodeNetwork
    • All nodes except NDE master node renetworked
    • Then NDE master node renetworked
    • Exception: ZeroConf
  3. CreateCluster – Creates SF cluster
    • SetClusterConfig (1% - 15%) ~ 15 seconds
    • CreateCluster (16% - 52%) ~ 35 seconds
    • AddDrives (53% - 98%) ~ 45 seconds
    • ConfigureNTP (99%)
  4. DeployEsxi – Deploys ESXi
    • Execute DeployComputeNodeEsxi on N-1 nodes (10% - 91%) ~ 900 seconds
    • Execute GetImages on the remaining node to download files to NDE master node (2% – 9%) ~ 160 seconds
    • ConfigureVirtualNetworking (92%)
    • EnableISCSiInitiator (96)%
    • RenamingDefaultLocalDatastore (97% – 98%)
    • ConfigureNTP (99%)
  5. DeployVcenter
    • WaitForEsxiApi (1%)
    • AddSolidfireVolumes (2%)
      • Create NetApp-HCI account
      • Create SF volumes NetApp-HCI-Datastore-01; NetApp-HCI-Datastore-02
      • Create NetApp-HCI access group and add ESXi IQNs
      • AddDataPortal (adds SVIP to vmhba dynamic discovery list)
    • DeployVcenter (3% - 95%)
      • OVFTool 
      • Create NetApp-HCI-Datacenter
      • Create NetApp-HCI-Cluster-01
      • Turn on DRS, HA
    • AddEsxiHosts (95 to 97%)
    • RegisterVcp (98%)
    • AddUser (99%)
