Disk gets auto-partitoned when not needed due to partitioned post init

  • ONTAP 9
  • MCCIP
  • Whole disk and partitioned disk raid groups

Issue

  • There is a whole spare disk that is getting auto-partitioned by ONTAP even though additional partitioned spares are not needed
  • There are other partitioned spare disks available and this unpartitioned spare disk is required for the whole disk raid group
  • Spares low alerts are generated as a result of this
  • The following is seen in the EMS logs for the affected disk
