Answer

The expected behavior is depending on cluster deployment. Please contact VMware support or check VMware documentation for more information.

  • The procedure might be disruptive for single-node cluster as drivers and firmware updates are in play on a single ESXi host.
  • The procedure can be non-disruptive if using 2-node cluster (HA pair) with nodes running on different hosts. Upgrading first one ESXi host and then the other, should maintain availability of the HA pair.
