Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • ONTAP Select
  • Evaluation to production upgrade

Answer

  • No, during an evaluation-to-production upgrade, cannot upgrade the storage capacity for two 100TB units using a capacity 200TB license.
  • ONTAP Select licensing offers two models:"capacity tier" and "capacity pool", each applied differently based on the use case.
    • For capacity tier license:
      • The upgrade capacity is typically applied per unit (e.g., a capacity100TB license).
      • This means that if there are two single-node hosts, separate capacity licenses (a total of capacity 100TB × 2) are required for each.
    • For capacity pool license:
      • Can upgrade the disk capacity across the entire cluster integratively, allowing a single license to cover multiple nodes.
      • When applying the license collectively to two units rather than individually for one, the "Capacity Pool" licensing model is required.
      • Note: Capacity pools do not support evaluation-to-production upgrades.
