Some openssh clients fails to connect to ONTAP when FIPS is enabled

  • ONTAP >= 9.8 and <9.12.1
  • OpenSSH client 8.6p1 or 9.0p1 (possible others too)
  • FIPS enabled in ONTAP
  • MacOS

Issue

The following error message is being returned to the openssh 8.6p1 client upon connect to ONTAP:
