Issue

  • NetApp Disk shows as "RAW" on Windows End.

  • The specific lun is online and mapped on the storage end and no issues were found on storage end.

  • In a MS cluster a LUN is mounted to multiple cluster nodes. It is the owning node that has full R/W access to the LUN.
  • The lun first needs to be checked in disk management on all the nodes.
  • If all nodes show a RAW partition on host end, then  below options can be tried:
  1. Unmap the lun, create a temporary igroup with one initiator and present it only to a single node.

  2. A better option is to present the LUN to a non-clustered windows host. This can be tested from a clone of the snapshot. If it works then unmap and map back to the cluster and split off the clone.

  • After mapping the restored LUN using clone to a single hosts , it was still reporting the same state (RAW).
  • Tried to map the restored LUN to standalone server as well but faced the same issue.
