Is changing Fractional Reserve on a volume a non disruptive process?
Applies to
ONTAP 9
Answer
- Yes, changing the Fractional Reserve value from 0 to 100 (Enabling Fractional Reserve) is a non disruptive process.
- However, before changing the Fractional Reserve from 100 to 0 (Disabling Fractional Reserve), the lun utilization should be less than total size of the lun.
- If Fractional Reserve is changed from 100 to 0 when lun is overutilized it may cause data loss.
- To confirm if lun is over utilized, check the size of the lun from storage end and compare it with the utilization of that lun on host end.
