ONTAP local user name and password limitations:

  • User Names
    • User Name is able to use valid characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, ".", "_", and "-"
      Note: User Name cannot start with -
    • Maximum character is 16
  • Passwords
    • Password is able to use valid characters:  A-Z, a-z, 0-9, "!", " " ", "#", "$", "%", "&", " ' " , "(", ")", "=", "~", "|", " ` " , "{",  "+", "*", "}", "<", ">", "?", "_", "-", "^", "\", "@", "[", ";", ":", "]", ",", ".", "/", " "(space is a valid character.)
    • Maximum character is 128
