Autosupport delivery fails along with notifyd panic

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.7 - 9.10.1
  • AutoSupport (ASUP)
  • FIPS mode enabled in ONTAP
  • ONTAP Autosupport transport is set to SMTP
  • SMTP Authentication is enabled
  • The configured SMTP server for Autosupport delivery is a Microsoft Exchange Server

Issue

  • After ONTAP upgrade to an affected version, Autosupports are not reliably transmitted to NetApp anymore, instead ONTAP internal process notifyd restarts unexpectedly with panic string:
    notifyd: Received SIGABRT (Signal 6) at RIP 0x809225c4a (pid 64452, uid 0, timestamp 1682201254)
  • The notifyd process will restart, if it was not restarted yet and attempting to run command ::> autosupport show an error is shown:
::*> autosupport show
