Applies to

  • NetApp ONTAP 9.16.1P6 and later
  • AFF (All Flash FAS) source volumes
  • FAS destination volumes (including FlexGroup)
  • Environments migrating data using rsync
  • Space efficiency features (TSSE, deduplication, compression, compaction)

Issue

  • After migrating data from an AFF FlexVol volume to a FAS FlexGroup volume using rsync, on one node, the destination volume on the FAS system reports significantly higher used space (e.g. ~160GB more) compared to the source
  • Running the "du" command, you will see identical client-side usage
  • The discrepancy is only visible in ONTAP-reported used space.
  • Running a manual storage efficiency scan on the FAS volume to reclaim any possible space does not resolve the space reporting concern
