Switch not reachable via SNMP due to mixed ONTAP version

  • ONTAP 9.8 and later running with ONTAP 9.7 and prior in the same cluster
  • Cluster network switch


  • The following alert is seen after an ONTAP upgrade

Ethernet switch "clusterswitch1(12345678798)" with IP address "" is not reachable via SNMP. Incorrect SNMP community string might be configured on the Ethernet switch.

  • Correct SNMP settings are configured on the switch, network and SNMP connectivity between ONTAP and switches is working
  • Ping and SNMPwalk to the switches management IP from ONTAP are successful
