Shelves Not Detected on FAS systems Due to IOM12C Incompatibility

Issue

After installing new DS212C disk shelves on an HA pair running ONTAP 9, the shelves are not properly detected by the system

  • The shelves appear as Shelf?:unknown NETAPP:DS21212IOM12C in sysconfig -a
  • All disks attached to the new shelves are visible and healthy, but the shelves themselves are not SES-managed or recognized as enclosures
  • EMS logs contain entries such as: 
    ses.shelf.unsupportAllowErr: Unsupported disk shelf found on channel 0a.
  • Example sysconfig -a output:
