Applies to

  • AFF-C800
  • ONTAP 9

Issue

  • During ONTAP upgrade, one of the nodes repeatedly entered a panic/reboot loop, which did not allow the upgrade to complete.
  • Partner node remained on the previous version, which prevented HA failover.
  • The following panic string was observed:

PANIC: page fault (supervisor write data, page not present) on VA 0x48 cs: rip 0x20: 0xffffffff80641114 rflags 0x10246

Additional symptoms:

  • sysconfig -a showed the T6 card in slot 2 was missing its firmware version.
  • EMS logs indicated a failed NIC firmware update attempt.
