Linux host loses LUN paths with blk_cloned_rq_check_limits error

Issue

RHEL 7.6 hosts loses paths to LUNs logging the following multipath error:
 
kernel:blk_cloned_rq_check_limits: over max size limit
 
Storage VPD advertised transfer length is different to what host is using:
 #sg_vpd -p /dev/sda
 
ONTAP:
scsit_lu_1: scsiblade.invalid.xfer.len:notice]: Host type sent command opcode 0x2a with a transfer length of bytes, which exceeds the maximum of 1MB on LUN
