Initialization of network interface failed on X91440A

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.13.1 and later
  • AFF A700, ASA AFF A700, FAS9000
  • AFF A900, ASA A900, FAS9500
  • X91440A 2-port 40GB network interface card

Issue

  • When performing an initial system setup or when upgrading to ONTAP 9.13.1 or later, the following errors are seen:
initialization of network interface e4e failed due to unexpected software error IXL:43
initialization of network interface e4e failed due to unexpected software error IXL:-2
initialization of network interface e4f failed due to unexpected software error IXL:43
initialization of network interface e4f failed due to unexpected software error IXL:-2
initialization of network interface e4g failed due to unexpected software error IXL:43
initialization of network interface e4g failed due to unexpected software error IXL:-2
initialization of network interface e4h failed due to unexpected software error IXL:43
initialization of network interface e4h failed due to unexpected software error IXL:-2
  • The affected ports are 10GbE breakout ports of a X91440A port in 4x10G breakout mode
  • Some of the XL710 ports on the X91440A module or the entire module/slot no longer appear in sysconfig CLI output:
