During upgrade, AFF-A400 shows netif.sfpNotSupported on ports e3a/e3b

Issue

During an ONTAP upgrade the cluster ports e3a and e3b are down on the updated node, the HA partner node is stuck in waiting for giveback.

  • EMS on upgraded node reports SFP+/QSFP+ unsupported messages.

netif.sfpNotSupported: The SFP+ or QSFP+ module (not supported ) installed in e3a is not supported with this network interface.
netif.sfpNotSupported: The SFP+ or QSFP+ module (not supported ) installed in e3b is not supported with this network interface.

  • Upgraded node shows ports down. ::> system node run -node updated_node -command sysconfig -a

                   ...
               e3b MAC Address:    00:ae:cd:09:b5:51 (auto-unknown-down)

  • Not upgraded node shows ports up. ::> system node run -node not_updated_node -command sysconfig -a Example:

                   ...
               e3b MAC Address:    00:ae:cd:09:c0:31 (auto-100g_cr4-fd-up)

  • EMS from Not upgraded node reports link errors: ::> event log show -event **NotSupported*
