Disk auto-partitioning disabled due to missing disks during shelf addition

Issue

  • After successfully adding DS460-12 Shelf with an empty drawer to single-node cluster and creating an aggregate using the shelf system panics as follows:

PANIC: aggr aggr0_root: raid volfsm, fatal multi-disk error.. 

  • During boot sequence the system gives the following errors:

[NODE-01:disk.checksum.offlineAdapter:ALERT]: Adapter 0b taken offline due to checksum verification failure on multiple disks. Keep the adapter offline and contact NetApp technical support for assistance.

WARNING: 0 disks found!

[NODE-01:raid.autoPart.disabled:ALERT]: Disk auto-partitioning is disabled on this system: the system needs a minimum of 4 usable internal hard disks.

Aggregate aggr0_root: Plex object 0 is missing a VBN segment starting at 0

  • When booting to maintenance mode it is identified that Internal Shelf is not present, while the external shelves and their disks are present through channel 0a
  • The system is able to boot up if the additional DS460-12 shelf is removed
