Chassis overtemperature resulting in an environmental shutdown
Applies to
- AFF-A220
- AFF-C800
- ONTAP 9
Issue
- Following the correction of an AC power failure on an HA pair, both nodes were no longer able to read the ambient chassis temperature:
Jul 19 19:58:55 [NODE1:monitor.shutdown.chassisOverTemp:EMERGENCY]: Chassis temperature is too hot: System will be shutdown in 2 minutes Jul 19 19:58:55 [NODE1:monitor.shutdown.emergency:EMERGENCY]: Emergency shutdown: Ambient temperature is not readable.
[NODE1:env_mgr:monitor.chassisTemperature.warm:alert]: Chassis temperature is too warm: LED Board Temp2 is warning high (42C). [NODE1:env_mgr:callhome.chassis.overtemp:EMERGENCY]: Callhome for CHASSIS OVERTEMPERATURE SHUTDOWN [NODE1:env_mgr:monitor.shutdown.emergency:EMERGENCY]: Emergency shutdown: Environmental Reason Shutdown (Temperature critical)
- Additionally, Node 2 persistently reported:
PSU2_Inlet_Temp: 57°C (above non-critical threshold of 54°C, critical at 59°C)
- After two minutes the node will be shutdown to prevent damage from being sustained to the hardware.
