Event Summary

BootmediaWarnAlert AutoSupport messages are triggered when the Boot device is wearing out due to write operations in the form of regular updates.

Validate

ONTAP will trigger a health alert on the reporting node.

  1. To confirm check the active health alerts on the system:
    1. AutoSupport Section: SYSTEM-HEALTH-ALERT.XML (check for alerts with alert ID 'BootmediaWarnAlert')
    2. CLI Command:

ClusterA::> system health alert show -alert-id BootmediaWarnAlert

Probable Cause     hardware_degrading
Description        Boot device is wearing out due to write operations in the form of regular updates.
Corrective Actions  1. Contact technical support to obtain a new boot device.
                    2. If possible, perform a takeover of this node and bring the node down for maintenance.
                    3. Refer to the "Boot media replacement guide for your given hardware platform" to replace the boot device.
                    4. Update the boot device with the appropriate Data ONTAP version.
                    5. Bring the storage system online.

  1. Check the status of the boot device:
    1. CLI Command:

Resolution

The boot device may need to be replaced. Replacement of a boot device requires a takeover and/or maintenance window to perform.
