Issue

  • After performing an ONTAP upgrade, a NSM100 shelf module (Mfg. P/N:111-05259 or 111-05261) running less than 0231 FW (i.e. 0204 or 0210) on NS224 storage shelves is not automatically updated to the ONTAP bundled version FW 0240 or higher.
  • Example: With ONTAP bundled NSM100 0402 FW, you see the following events
[node-01: dsa_sfu: sfu.downloadStarted:info]: Update of disk shelf firmware started on 1 shelf.
[node-01: dsa_worker3: sfu.downloadingController:info]: [storage download shelf]: Downloading NSM100.0402.SFW on disk shelf controller module A on 0x.shelf0.
[node-01: dsa_sfu: sfu.downloadingController:info]: [storage download shelf]: Downloading NSM100.0402.SFW on disk shelf controller module B on 0x.shelf0.
    [node-01: dsa_sfu: sfu.downloadSuccess:info]: [storage download shelf]: Firmware file NSM100.0402.SFW downloaded on 0x.shelf0.
    [node-01: dsa_sfu: sfu.downloadSummary:info]: Shelf firmware updated on 1 shelf.

  • However, sysconfig -a output shows NSM100 modules failed to update to the target version.

Shelf 0: NS224NSM100 Firmware rev. NSM100 A: 0204 NSM100 B: 0204
  • Manual shelf firmware update also fails to resolve the problem.
