CFBMC-7504: BMC upgrade fails to update from 13.11P1 to 13.12

Issue

  • BMC update from 13.11P1 to 13.12 does not complete either via ONTAP auto-update or BMC command line update
  • The node rolls back firmware to 13.11 after the update attempt
  • No secondary BMC image is shown when running the following command:

::> system service-processor image show

 
  • BMC does not respond when attempting to change networking settings:

::> system service-processor network modify
 
  • BMC might show "offline" and "online" intermittently when checking the BMC status:

::> system service-processor show

 
  • BMC might not be accessible via direct console. If it is accessible, then you might get a strange prompt that does not reference a BMC
  • If the node is taken over or rebooted, it will not boot back up and the following is seen on the serial console:

Failed to add SEL entry: Success
BMC IPMI communication failed
ERROR: Platform verification failed. Autoboot will be disabled.
Failed to add SEL entry: Success
