If I use NetApp SnapMirror to mirror my encrypted volume to a different cluster, is the same encryption key used at the destination?

Answer

  • No. When mirroring an encrypted volume to a different cluster using SnapMirror, the same encryption key is not reused at the destination.
  • For NVE, the destination volume is created as a new volume and is encrypted with its own unique volume-level key.
  • For NAE, the destination volume is created as a new aggregate and is encrypted with its own unique aggregate-level key.
