Unless an exception is identified, the order of installation or upgrade for cluster network switch software is as follows:

  1. NX-OS 
  2. Cisco RCF

  • The Cisco Ethernet Switch  table will map out the supported Cisco switch models, NX-OS software releases, reference configuration file (RCF) versions, and ONTAP releases for cluster networks.
  • Reference Upgrading ONTAP 9 Cluster Network Switch for information about installing NX-OS firmware, reference configuration files (RCF), and ONTAP releases for the specific switch models.

    • The exact upgrade path can be found in the release notes of the version you want to upgrade to
