No management access to BES-53248 Switch

Issue

  • Cant access the management port on a BES-53248 switch
  • When accessing the switch through serial console, we observe that the serviceport is down

(switch)#show serviceport
Interface Status............................... Down
IP Address..................................... xx.xxx.xxx.xx
Burned In MAC Address.......................... xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx

  • However, the BMC port is physically UP and I can ping its IP address, ruling out physical cable problem

(switch)#linuxsh
# ipmitool lan print
IP Address Source       : DHCP Address
IP Address              : xx.xxx.xxx.xx
MAC Address             : xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx

  • On the management switch to which the BES-53248 is connected we see in the MAC table the BMC MAC address but not the Management MAC address.
