  • StorageGRID reports Alert Node network reception frame error


  • From Support > Grid Topology > SSM > Resources,  alarm reported NRER and/ or NTER alarms.


  • Ensure to verify and follow: Frame errors incrementing against StorageGRID node after network maintenance
  • In Overview page, scroll down to the network Receive statistic table.

    • Find out the affected NIC by matching the amount of Frames of each NIC with Receive Errors at the bottom of the table.
  • Troubleshoot via SSH:
    • Login command line of the affected node as user root:
      • Review statistic of all NICs: ifconfig
      • Review statistic of a specific NIC: ifconfig <nic>
      • Example:

root@host:~ # ifconfig hic2
hic2:flags=6211<up,broadcast,running,...>  mtu 1500
 ether xx:yy:zz:xx:yy:xx  txqueuelen 1000  (Ethernet)
  RX packets 5557116789  bytes 2372433298793 (2.1 TiB)
  RX errors 761369 dropped 0  overruns 0  frame 761369
  TX packets 7244109719  bytes 2585709354046 (2.3 TiB)
  TX errors 0  dropped 0 overruns 0  carrier 0  collisions 0

  • Find out physical MAC of member NICs in a bound: cat /proc/net/bonding/<bound_name>
  • Review NIC settings: ethtool <nic>
  • Review NIC SFP information: ethtool -m <nic>
  • Review detail statistic of a specific NIC: ethtool -S <nic>
